ABC dEcode® and Visual Processing Disorder
Visual Processing problems affect both children and adults, and in
many cases, this disorder goes undetected throughout the lifespan of the
person affected (effected?).
School age students with Visual Processing Difficulties frequently display
the following symptoms:
- the student will think and see a "6" but will write "9",
or will think and see "b" and write "d"
- the student will have trouble tracking when reading text
- the student will merge letters together as one long word when writing
- Older students will have difficulties in math, in areas such as long
division, holding place values in algebra, specifically when having to
shift like and unlike terms around.
Children and adults with Visual Processing difficulties will miss subtle
clues given by others. Examples of this tendancy include:
- unable to visualize others facial expressions to "read"
various moods, i.e. anger, frustration, fear
- standing uncomfortably close, invading others personal space
