| About Dr. Deborah Chesnie Cooper, PhD
Dr. Deborah Chesnie Cooper is an educational and developmental psychologist who has been in private practice since 1972.
In 1976, Dr. Cooper received her Ph.D. from the University of Toronto and has been a registered psychologist since 1978. Between 1985 and 1989 she served as a psychological consultant to the Neonatal Follow-up Unit of the Department of Paediatrics at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto. During that time, she developed an extensive diagnostic battery of tests to determine infants at risk for later language delay. From 1982 to 1995 she was co-founder of a school specializing in helping children with learning disabilities, then founded The Chesnie Cooper Educational Centre in Toronto.
Throughout her many years practicing within psychology, Dr. Debby Chesnie Cooper has treated people of all ages with a variety of learning disabilities. Working directly with these individuals either in her private practice, in research, as co-founder of a school and most recently founder of a clinic for learning disabilities, she discovered that for many, traditional methods specifically in the areas of reading and math, did not work. In addition, by the time they reached her, their self-esteem was so fragile that emotional factors also prevented new learning.
As a result, Dr. Cooper developed a number of programs to address these areas - dEcode. |
